A Healthy Approach To Prophecy
UncategorizedLeave a comment

I identify a lot with Amos who said in Amos 7:14 “But Amos replied, “I’m not a professional prophet, and I was never trained to be one. I’m just a shepherd, and I take care of sycamore-fig trees. But the Lord called me away from my flock and told me, ‘Go and prophesy to my people in Israel.’

I am a teacher of the Word. That’s my calling. God allows me the privilege to preach sometimes. He also allows me the privilege to prophesy sometimes. So I’m teaching mainly from the point of view of a receiver of the prophetic.

It’s that time of the year in Christendom where, rightly or wrongly so (that’s a conversation for another day), there’s all kinds of messages that go out in the form of prophecies about the next year.

I just thought it’ll be good to help you understand how to posture yourself in this season. If you approach prophecy, prophets & the prophetic wrong, you’re either bound to experience a lot of gas and no substance or you’ll miss out on what God has in store for you through an authentic expression of the prophetic gift.

So here’s what I’ve learned over the years, when it comes to the matter of prophecy, especially at this time of the year.

Prophetic words are declarations made in time, about what God has already completed before time began. In other words, a prophetic declaration does not necessarily create something new, it just helps you see what God has already created. All the prophetic words about the messiah did not create the messiah. The lamb of God had already been slain before the foundation of the earth (Revelation 13:8b) . The prophets were only declaring in time, that which was already completed outside of time.

Don’t give the prophet more credit than He/She is due. They are not God. They cannot create a better life for you. They can only help you see and articulate what God has already completed. They help you see what God intends to manifest in a season of your life. They bring light shining in darkness (2 Peter 1:19-21)

Prophetic words are not magic words that we sit back and expect to unfold like a good magic trick. They are given to help with the warfare of faith. If you don’t work the prophecy by believing it (faith) and conducting your life in the light that the prophecy brings (Works), you set yourself up for a shabby fight of faith. A fight that lacks precision. Wage a good war of faith with the prophetic word. (1 Timothy 1:18)

Even with the best of intentions, prophetic words can often come with flaws, because a perfect message communicated by an imperfect being is prone to be riddled with some error from the communicator. So don’t get so flattered that a word was brought to you that you swallow everything you heard. Check it with what God has been speaking to you.

By the way, don’t let it be the case that you only ever hear from God when someone brings you a prophetic word. That’s how you get susceptible to deception. Prophets and their ability to prophesy are gifts from God to you. Since we still have the flesh, our communication channel can be clogged with all sorts.

The gift of prophecy helps with that problem. The gift of prophecy should confirm something that you’ve already been processing in your personal time with God. If you don’t utilise this privilege of direct access to God, you will fall prey to charlatans in the guise of prophets. (1 John 2:20)

Seeing as you have direct access to God for yourself, this should eliminate the need for you to approach prophetic words suspiciously. Walking in Love is believing the best upfront whilst trusting God with any possible disappointments that come with having that posture. The best of everything God has for you comes through, when you’re in a posture of love. Don’t miss out on the gift that God sends you because you’ve met a dubious prophet before.

If you need to pay to receive a prophetic Word, it’s probably not a Word from God. If the prophetic word lines up with what’s in the Written word, but there are parts of it that doesn’t, lay the whole thing on the word. The Word is sharp enough to divide the soul from the Spirit. The Word will reveal which bit came from the soul of the prophet and which bit came from the Spirit of God in the prophet. If you’re not sure, about something that was said to you, keep it on the Word until you’re sure one way or the other. NEVER ACT ON SOMETHING, JUST BECAUSE THE PROPHET SAID. Every thing we do in the New Testament, we do by faith in God. If you don’t have faith, that this is God, don’t do it!

Honour those who God uses to prophesy to you, don’t worship them. By the way, God doesn’t only prophesy through people in the office of a prophet, He can use anyone! That’s why it’s wise to honour everyone around you…just as you’d honour the man or woman of God. It is disingenuous to honour people in the five fold ministry whilst you dishonour everyone around you. Wise people in the ministry do not lean on the honour offered by someone who dishonour those in their world.

I believe God still speaks through prophets today. But first, He speaks to you through His Spirit in you. Believe the Lord your God so shall you be established. Believe His prophets, so shall you prosper. 2 Chronicles 20:20. Prophecy in the life of a believer, works best and is such a gift that can cause you to prosper (to have a successful journey) when it comes to people who are established in God, through faith in God.

In the next season of your life, I pray that you will hear a voice behind you saying, this is the way, walk in it! I pray you never lack direction in this next season. I pray you won’t beat the air in your fight of faith. I pray that you receive all you need to fight with precision.

What are you learning from your Pain?
UncategorizedLeave a comment

Pain instructs.

I believe God allowed pain to instruct us. It wasn’t his first choice. He is not sadistic to choose pain as an instructor. His first choice was obedience. God’s best plan has always been that we learn by listening to Him and obeying His instructions.

The fallen state of man however, makes it highly possible that we wouldn’t know how to discern the voice of God.

And even when we do, our sin condition often persuades us that there is life outside of LIFE HIMSELF, wisdom outside of the instructions of WISDOM HIMSELF. So we reject God’s instructions.

But God has set things up in such a way that even the negative consequence of being outside of God’s will, is pregnant with opportunities to return to Him. This is the mercy of God in action.

Pain and Hurt is a testament of the mercy of God. Pain is God saying, you didn’t hear me last time, will you hear me now that it hurts?

The trouble is that we have an enemy, His job is to pervert something that God allows for our good, he turns it around for evil.

So when we get hurt in relationships, the hurt was teaching you who you are, what you like, what is important to you.

But the enemy perverts that, and teaches us to hate others for hurting us. Teaches us to live a distrustful life because we’ve been hurt. Teaches us not to try again because failing hurt the last time.

I think this is why it is important to learn to yield our pain to God. When we do, He uses our pain to teach us His lessons.

When we don’t yield our pain to God, we open ourselves up to pick up the perverted lessons that the enemy wants us to learn in pain and hurt.

We don’t need to ask you if you are learning from your pain, because we all are. We do need to ask, what are you learning from your pain?

The right lessons will make you better, not bitter, wiser not foolish. The right lessons will provoke growth not stunt your growth. The right lessons will make you bolder, not more timid.

Don’t waste your pain. Tell God about what hurts. Find good friends who will partner with God to bring out the best lessons from your pain.

This is the gospel, that in darkest and most painful parts of the journey of life, resurrection is possible because God turns our pain and our hurt in to resurrection power!

The Throne or The Towel?
LeadershipLeave a comment

A common deception for leaders and aspiring leaders is the deception that the goal of leadership is the throne. Particularly when we are inspired by others who are wielding great influence already. This is where you just see the position occupied by your boss at work, a leader in church or another community or thought leader.

When this happens we begin to jostle for a position. We start jostling for the throne. If you are a person of faith, your prayer requests becomes mainly positional requests and supplications that sounds something like this “God, please make me a …”.

Is it wrong to desire a position? Absolutely not! The bible says that it is a good thing to desire to be a bishop. However the goal of the position or title is not the throne!

In Matthew 20: 24 – 28 Jesus was addressing his disciples who had a ring side seat that gave them the privilege of seeing the influence that Jesus wielded in His time. James and John got their mum to ask Jesus for positions on His right and His left hand side. The disciples also became indignant because they thought that Jesus granted them their request.

But Jesus turned it around, He said look. if you are really looking to go to the top, you’re going to have to change what you are looking at! Stop looking at the glory and the majesty of the throne! Start looking for a place to serve like a servant!

Pride causes us to aim for the throne, whilst humility causes us to crave service. As part of your service, you might need a throne. Infact the truth is that the throne was designed to be used for a greater level of service. However humility understands that even when you get the throne, you are a servant on a throne.

Even with Jesus, it wasn’t the allure of a throne that drew Him to come to the earth, it was the opportunity to serve! He did not come to be served but to serve. Authentic  leadership is servant leadership.

Philippians 2:6-7 Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God, did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained, But stripped Himself of all privileges and rightful dignity, so as to assume the guise of a servant slave, in that He became like men and was born a human being.

The reason Jesus is Lord, the all powerful God, with the highest influence in every realm of existence is because he set his sights on the privilege of serving. His eyes where not on the throne. His eyes where on the opportunity to serve humanity.

The life and achievement of Jesus leaves us with one profound truth that every leader must embrace – You will NEVER really lead anyone or in any sphere that you have not really served!

Leadership In the Kingdom of God
LeadershipLeave a comment

God has called every one of his children to lead and to make a difference, but that difference is only made when we choose to apply ourselves to His purpose. Leadership is responsibility. We become children of God by the grace of God. However, we walk as sons by virtue of the responsibility we assume within the confines of His grace.

Whilst the whole world is yours by the grace of God, it is only those who develop the ability to be responsible for that which has been released to us by the grace of God that actually get to walk in their inheritance…

Let me explain this like this…I have an excellent father…and when I was growing up, he had a car. Now from the moment I was born, by virtue of the favour that my father had on me because I was His son, I had the privilege of being taken to school in that car…I had the privilege of being picked up from school in that car. But I didn’t have the privilege of driving that car on behalf of my father until a certain age!

Why? Because for whatever reason…I had not yet stepped up to the plate of responsibility.

So even though the car was available to me, I needed to be responsible enough to go to driving school…I needed to be responsible enough to pay attention enough to pass my driving test…it is now on the basis of my demonstration of this responsibility that my father now released me into using the car to drop of my younger ones at school and picking them from school…on His behalf!

This is what leaders are in the kingdom of God. Leaders are those who have stepped up to take responsibility to develop the different attributes that allow God to release them into the inheritance that belongs to them by the grace of God!

The apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 4:1-2 that we are stewards of mysteries of God, and it is required that those who are steward to be found faithful…In other words we are called by the grace of God, but within the confines of His grace there is a requirement for me to be faithful as a steward of the promise by grace!

Leadership is about being responsible stewards of the things that God has given us by His grace. Everything God has promised you…everything you are believing for is by the grace of God. There is a requirement for us to develop attributes that make us responsible sons who administrate all that God has given us by His Grace.

#MylesMunroe: Tributes are good, but not enough
UncategorizedLeave a comment

Today I join with millions around the world to pay tribute to the awesome gift that is Dr Myles Munroe. I choose to celebrate your life and the life of your wife today Sir. I pray for his family and church. I pray that they experience the soothing, peace passing comfort of the Holy Spirit.

Source:Facebook

In times like this, out of the hearts of those of us whose lives have been impacted by people like Dr Myles Munroe flows heartfelt tributes. It is right and it is fitting. However, it will be a terrible shame if that’s all we do!

God places people in the earth as vessels or carriers of different gifts, messages and instructions for the benefit of the rest of the World. Ultimately, God’s desire is that these things which He deposited in us will be handed down to others who come after us. In Genesis 18:19a God, speaking about Abraham said: For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord to do justice and judgment…notice that God chose Abraham because He knew He will pass on what he learnt from God to those who come after him. In fact I believe that a key to being released into a higher dimension of influence, particularly in the things of God, is to be willing to continually empty yourself of what you have received, and to keep a heart that is always ready to receive more. In other words, learn to teach and to be teachable!

Dr Myles Munroe has learnt, and poured out what he learnt. The tributes from all around the world are a testament to how much of his contents he poured out on this earth. Whilst we pay tribute to him, here are 2 things i believe will be more honourable to do:

1: Stand at your post in the kingdom! God used Dr Myles Munroe to communicate the Kingdom of God because He (God) is passionate about the establishment of the Kingdom of God on the earth! Every time God sends us His Word, He doesn’t just do it to show us how profound He is, He does it because in time, after you hear the Word, you will get the opportunity to “Work Out” the Word that He “Worked in” using people like Dr Munroe. We will truly honour Dr Munroe’s work when we look out for opportunities to “work out” what God “worked in” you. Serve the purpose of the kingdom fiercely in the market place! Serve the purpose of the Kingdom fiercely at your local church. Don’t be missing in action on any of those fronts. That is how to pay a lasting tribute!

2. Teach somebody what you know! Pass on the Baton! I don’t want to say much on this because I believe Dr Munroe articulated it so well in this short clip. Click here to watch. Your assignment is not complete when you build the church in your heart or run the business or social enterprise of your dreams. It is complete when the next generation have enough inspiration and instruction from you on running the next leg!

Please do not be distracted by how Dr Munroe and his wife passed. The enemy, the devil, can and is using the “how” they passed on from this earth to distract you from the truth that his passing means that it’s now your turn to run with what they passed on to you! How they went is not nearly as significant as the truth that it’s our turn!

To my generation, my prayer is that in 30, 40 or 50 years time (if Jesus has not to yet returned), there will be so many of us making the same impact that Dr Munroe and his lovely wife made in this world! Today, I believe that it’s our turn be teachable. It’s our turn to be consistent. It’s our turn to be faithful. It’s our turn to be grounded. It’s our turn to stop running from pillar to post. It’s our turn to be focussed. I know it’s our turn for all those things because when God calls a Moses home, the assignment is not finished, it is just Joshua’s turn!

How to get promoted
LeadershipLeave a comment

Getting promoted is not something that is set aside for others. It is literally within your grasp. The nature of the environment doesn’t even need to hinder your progress because your success is an inside job!

The story is told about a man called Daniel who was a prisoner of war and a slave. He was in a place where by virtue of the type of environment he was in, he was supposed to be one of those who should not be noticed.

He was not supposed to be someone who had anything to say about anything in this environment, because the facts & figures from the standards, stereotypes and statistics were stacked against him.

But Daniel was a man who had the Spirit of Excellence, and it was this spirit of excellence that caused the king to begin to plan things things for Him…

There is something about excellence that causes kings (people in authority) to find you out…you begin to register on the radar of those who can help you when you become excellent at what you do…

Please never forget that most of the time, opportunity watches you before opportunity shows up at your door. Kings watch you before kings speak to you.

In Daniel 6, the king first noticed Daniel, and based on His observation of the kind of person that Daniel was, He began to make plans for Daniel’s promotion.

Right now there is somebody making plans for your promotion because there is always room for you to be promoted, but the question still remains, what is it about me that should cause them to call off their search when the find me?

Here is a short list of several things you could do at work today to put you on the radar of kings.

How to get promoted

1. Learn to leave your personal baggage at Home! Step away from being that person who is always going through something. Don’t be that person that always has a need that is not being met.

Those who get promoted are those who don’t always come to the table with their need…they are those who come with a seed. Kings love people who bring something to the table.

2. Check your attitude. Are you are problem spotter or a problem solver? What is your attitude at Work.

Don’t complain about problems at work! You’re not doing your boss a favour, they pay you to be stressed by the companies issues.

If you will get promoted you’ll need to be that one with a good attitude. And the good thing is that irrespective of what you’re facing, you can always choose your attitude.

Attitudes can be changed by changing what you believe!

3. Understand why you are paid to do what you do. You will never be effective if you don’t know why you are there.

Why did they put you on the pay roll? How does that contribute to your company? You will get disillusioned when you don’t understand why you do what you do. People who know why will always be promoted over people who just know how.

Kings are always looking for people who understand why they are where they are and what their role is.

4. Learn to be flexible to change. Kings are looking for people who are willing to be flexible…willing to change. Don’t be one of those that just resist change for the sake of it.

Most people just resist change because change always requires something of you.

If you don’t change, you’ll stay where you are…that’s why eventually people who resist change become:-
a) Passive – and real leaders don’t need passive people…real leaders need to know exactly where you stand…
b) Aggressive…could it be that opportunity is by-passing you because you are trying to control the situation by being aggressive!

So learn to embrace change…the most sure thing here on earth is change!

Hope you found that helpful. Congratulations on your promotion!
