Dear Teenager: some truths about your parents
UncategorizedLeave a comment

I recently received an anonymous email from a teenager who was asking for guidance in dealing with their parents in a Godly way. Fortunately I have been a teenager before so here is an open letter to my precious anonymous friend.

Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.” (Ephesians 6:1-3 NLT)

Dear friend

Thank you for your recent letter. Here are some things I have discovered about these special creatures called PARENTS…

There is something in your parents that releases success in you. It is God ordained! Your parents are containers of the blessing of God which can release you into God’s perfect plan for your life. This is why God instructs us to honour them i.e. to give WEIGHT to them, to their words, their instructions and their place in your life. To honour them is to treat them as valuable. They carry something that will cause things to go well for you, but we’ll never receive anything from someone we don’t honour! I know you don’t agree with them on most things, but do not cease to look for ways to honour them at all times! Dear teenager, the TRUTH is that your parents are equipped to help you succeed. Give weight to them!

Every person is unique, every child is unique. Dear teenager, please cut your parents some slack. They are trying to figure this thing out just like you are. Raising every child is a unique experience for the parent. They’ve never been at this place where you are becoming an adult responsible for your own decisions, whilst still being their child who needs their help and guidance. Just like you are going through a change which they need to understand, they are going through a change which you need to understand! They are learning just like you are.

I know you think they hate you, but the truth is that they love you so much that they would risk “hurting” you temporarily in order to ensure that things go well with you permanently. No parent enjoys seeing there children upset. Dad hates to see you upset, but he still can’t trust you to be on your own with that boy, not because he doesn’t believe you have strength of character, but because he knows that when it comes to your body, the wise thing to do is not to test your strength of character…clear strong boundaries are more effective.

Dear friend, i hope this helps. I have more to say to you, so I will write to you again soon. In the meantime, please know that you can ALWAYS trust God. Your parents might not always understand, but God always understands. If you stick to God’s instructions to you regarding your parents, you will ALWAYS come out from any difficult times with your parents…better off!

God bless you & keep you.

Partnership with God: what is our part?
UncategorizedLeave a comment

I believe that one of the most powerful revelations a person can get is that God has decided to need you on this earth. God has complete authority over all things, but in Genesis 1:26 He decided to partner with man. In Genesis 1:28, He partnered with man; He did what He had previously decided to do…He gave man authority.

If any partnership is going to be effective, each partner will have to understand their part & the part of their partner. This understanding does away with the kind of scenario where we take on something that we weren’t supposed to take on. Taking on someone else’s part in any partnership eventually leads to frustration & disillusionment about the partnership.

So many of us have found ourselves frustrated and disillusioned with God because we have been taught to take on His part as well as our part. For instance, so many people don’t want anything to do with God, because they’ve been told that they have to clean up first in order to come to God. The truth is that coming to God is our part, but being cleaned up is His part. Jesus said Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for Yourself, make them holy] by the Truth; Your Word is Truth. (John 17:17 AMP)…notice that it is God who sanctifies. Anyone who attempts to sanctify themselves ends up with a frustration that is often passed on to those they come in contact with. It is those who have taken on God’s part with regards to sanctification that also take on God’s part with regards to judging people.

In our partnership with God we have only one part…to believe God. Romans 3:28 says that So we are made right with God through faith… to be made right with God is to have a functioning effective partnership with God, and the way that we do that is by believing or having faith in God.

Every person who did anything great for God started from a place of believing God…Yes Moses did parted the Red Sea…well, really all He did was believe God when God asked Him lift His Rod over the sea…God parted the Red Sea through Moses because He believed God. David defeated Goliath…but really all He did was believe that the God who delivered Him from the bear & the lion will deliver him from Goliath. Yes Peter walked on water but really all He did was believe Jesus when He said COME! All these people played their part which is to believe God, and God played His part which is to fulfil the Word they believed.

So many of us are taking on the pressure of doing similar great things for God without believing God. The evidence of our confession that we believe God is found in our stance when what you’re “believing” for does not materialise. When we focus more on the miracle that you need today, on the Holy person that you are supposed to be, on the good things that you are supposed to do…we are focusing on God’s part. When we focus on the great things that we are supposed to happen with our lives, or in the lives of our loved ones, we are taking on God’s part. If we continue to do that, we will end up frustrated and disillusioned about this partnership with God.

Today I pray that your faith (your ability to believe God confidently) will not fail you. I pray that you will have the courage to make a decision to believe God in spite of what you see around you. As we believe God, we are made right with God…which means that our partnership is in the shape that it is supposed to be in. If our partnership is in shape, that means that God will do His part. OUR PART IS SIMPLE…WE BELIEVE GOD!

Faithful is He Who is calling you [to Himself] and utterly trustworthy, and He will also do it [fulfill His call by hallowing and keeping you]. (1 Thessalonians 5:24 AMP)

Help! I need strength…
UncategorizedLeave a comment

When it comes to the things that are to do with what we hope for, at one point or the other, we’ll get to the place where we feel so tired that we are prepared to give up…(if you’ve never been there, you are either not stretching your neck out for anything, or you haven’t lived long enough)

The great thing about God is that He understands us humans so much that He made provision for us to have access to strength in times like that. Abraham & Sarah are really good examples of how to access strength to keep going. Romans 4:18 tells us that Abraham believed in Hope even when there was no reason to hope. Hebrews 11:11 (KJV) tells us that Sarah received STRENGTH to conceive…because she judged Him faithful who had promised. Those two scriptures tell me that somehow, Abraham & Sarah eventually learnt to trust God beyond their desire for manifestation. This is the place where (as my Pastor puts it) we develop from faith to trust. This is the place where we say “I Trust God, more that I need the thing I am hoping for”. This is the place where we enter into rest because we are so confident that our God is so good at being God, that He will remain faithful to keep that which we have entrusted to Him…

This place of rest, is the place of strength..Isaiah 26:3-4 says You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you: because he trusts in you.Trust in the LORD forever: for in the LORD GOD is everlasting strength:

Notice that he who trusts God is kept in peace. Notice also the reason why developing trust in God is the key to your strength…In the LORD GOD is everlasting strength. The one in whom you are trusting is the only source of everlasting strength!

God says in Isaiah 32:18My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.

If you feel tired of hoping & believing, just begin to confess, “I trust God more than I need this thing to be manifested in my life”…that’s how you enter your place of rest. In this place of rest, you will find strength to continue hoping & believing. You’ll find strength to continue living, because to truly be alive, is to truly continue hoping and believing.

Live a restful life…Live a powerful life!

The bread of my life
UncategorizedLeave a comment

Deuteronomy 32:46…“Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. 47 They are not just idle words for you—they are your life.By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”

I recently realized after reading the above scripture that I sometimes treat God’s Word like an alternative to something else. We live in a generation where there appears to be alternatives to the Word of God. If the prayer for healing for that headache doesn’t work, there’s always paracetamol. If the prayer for provision doesn’t work like we expected it to work, at least we have a job which will definitely pay out at the end of the month. And so because we have these “alternatives” we can often approach God out of religion, which means that there is no real dependency on the God we are praying to.

The truth is that the Word of God is your life! The Word of God is my life! Whilst there are “alternatives”, God’s Word ALONE will produce the results that God has planned for you. John 10:10 tells us that Jesus came to give us life in abundance until it overflows. He came to give a life that is superabundant in quantity & superior in quality. But notice that it is Jesus…who is the Word of God…that came to give us that life.

Here is what I am saying today, the answers to life’s dilemmas are in the Words we heard at church over the weekend. They are in the pages of your bible, they are right there on that bible app! The Word is near you. Those Words are not idle, worthless, or vain. They are our life! They are our source of sustenance. That’s why the bible describes Jesus…The Word of God…as the bread of life. That’s why in the Lord’s prayer Jesus recommends that we place a demand for our “Daily Bread”. The moment we start to undermine the importance of the Daily Bread, we sign up for weakness, malnutrition and eventually death!

Everything we need for our nourishment is found in Jesus, the Bread of Life. Forgiveness, peace, love, provision, hope, faith, wisdom…EVERYTHING! I think the most beautiful thing about this bread of life is that He is eternal, He never runs out. All power has been given to Him. All knees eventually bow at the mention of His name. He is available to us FREELY. Whatever you need for life, don’t be shy, don’t hold back, FEAST ON THE BREAD OF LIFE. Just go for it! Let’s develop a habit of choosing to approach every single aspect of our lives on the basis of what the Word says. That’s how we feast on the Bread of Life. The person who does this has this promise from Jesus Himself: John 6:35… “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will NEVER go hungry, and he who believes in me will NEVER be thirsty”.

I’ve made a decision to COMPLETELY depend on the bread of life for my sustenance.
