#MylesMunroe: Tributes are good, but not enough
UncategorizedLeave a comment

Today I join with millions around the world to pay tribute to the awesome gift that is Dr Myles Munroe. I choose to celebrate your life and the life of your wife today Sir. I pray for his family and church. I pray that they experience the soothing, peace passing comfort of the Holy Spirit.

In times like this, out of the hearts of those of us whose lives have been impacted by people like Dr Myles Munroe flows heartfelt tributes. It is right and it is fitting. However, it will be a terrible shame if that’s all we do!

God places people in the earth as vessels or carriers of different gifts, messages and instructions for the benefit of the rest of the World. Ultimately, God’s desire is that these things which He deposited in us will be handed down to others who come after us. In Genesis 18:19a God, speaking about Abraham said: For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord to do justice and judgment…notice that God chose Abraham because He knew He will pass on what he learnt from God to those who come after him. In fact I believe that a key to being released into a higher dimension of influence, particularly in the things of God, is to be willing to continually empty yourself of what you have received, and to keep a heart that is always ready to receive more. In other words, learn to teach and to be teachable!

Dr Myles Munroe has learnt, and poured out what he learnt. The tributes from all around the world are a testament to how much of his contents he poured out on this earth. Whilst we pay tribute to him, here are 2 things i believe will be more honourable to do:

1: Stand at your post in the kingdom! God used Dr Myles Munroe to communicate the Kingdom of God because He (God) is passionate about the establishment of the Kingdom of God on the earth! Every time God sends us His Word, He doesn’t just do it to show us how profound He is, He does it because in time, after you hear the Word, you will get the opportunity to “Work Out” the Word that He “Worked in” using people like Dr Munroe. We will truly honour Dr Munroe’s work when we look out for opportunities to “work out” what God “worked in” you. Serve the purpose of the kingdom fiercely in the market place! Serve the purpose of the Kingdom fiercely at your local church. Don’t be missing in action on any of those fronts. That is how to pay a lasting tribute!

2. Teach somebody what you know! Pass on the Baton! I don’t want to say much on this because I believe Dr Munroe articulated it so well in this short clip. Click here to watch. Your assignment is not complete when you build the church in your heart or run the business or social enterprise of your dreams. It is complete when the next generation have enough inspiration and instruction from you on running the next leg!

Please do not be distracted by how Dr Munroe and his wife passed. The enemy, the devil, can and is using the “how” they passed on from this earth to distract you from the truth that his passing means that it’s now your turn to run with what they passed on to you! How they went is not nearly as significant as the truth that it’s our turn!

To my generation, my prayer is that in 30, 40 or 50 years time (if Jesus has not to yet returned), there will be so many of us making the same impact that Dr Munroe and his lovely wife made in this world! Today, I believe that it’s our turn be teachable. It’s our turn to be consistent. It’s our turn to be faithful. It’s our turn to be grounded. It’s our turn to stop running from pillar to post. It’s our turn to be focussed. I know it’s our turn for all those things because when God calls a Moses home, the assignment is not finished, it is just Joshua’s turn!

Romans 16:25 – Now to him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message I proclaim about Jesus Christ, in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past

A man/woman without conviction is like someone giving life an extremely limp wristed handshake.

I love the conviction of Paul in the bible. He was so convinced of who He was that He would often write about himself ” Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God (Colossians 1:1, 2 Timothy 1:1, Ephesians 1:1). And with regards to his messages, He boldly refers to it as “MY GOSPEL”…notice how unapologetic he was!

I think people who do significant things with their lives are people of great conviction. They are people who are clear about what they believe and who they are. Paul still has critics today, but i believe that it is this clarity about who he had become by the grace of God that sets him head and shoulders above his peers. No one can take away the product of his conviction – 2/3rds of the best selling book of all time!

Everyone – critics & cheerleaders alike – has an opinion about who you are and where you are headed. I think most people spend their lives living out what others think about them. I reckon that’s a one way route to destination mediocre, because you will always be dancing to the tune of the opinion poles and you never get the chance to be yourself long enough to be good at being you!

One of the things I love about being a person of faith is that I can find out who I am FROM MY MAKER! So can you!

Whatever you do, there’s always going to be someone who has an opinion of who you are and who you should be…and you will wear yourself out if you live to prove them wrong or prove them right. It’s like being tossed around by every wind of doctrine! (Ephesians 4:14)

Find out who you are. Be clear about you are. People should confirm who you are not tell you who you are. Honestly, regularly & truthfully review your beliefs, and stay true to them.

In order to get good at being you, you’ll have to spend your life being you. I believe that everything that God has for you is reserved for the real you, not the you that everyone thinks you are or should be.

Spend your life being you!

Have a brilliant weekend

Some things are more important than being understood
UncategorizedLeave a comment

The high priests, along with the religion scholars and leaders, were right there mixing it up with the rest of them, having a great time poking fun at him: “He saved others—he can’t save himself! King of Israel, is he? Then let him get down from that cross. We’ll all become believers then! He was so sure of God—well, let him rescue his ‘Son’ now—if he wants him! He did claim to be God’s Son, didn’t he?” Even the two criminals crucified next to him joined in the mockery. (Matthew 27:41-44 MSG)

On the Friday, Saturday & even the Sunday of the first “Easter”, whilst Jesus hung on the cross & whilst He was in the grave, doing the very thing He was born to do, He was probably misunderstood the most! Those He was born to lead into new realms of limitless possibilities, completely misunderstood Him! Check out some of the things they said in the passage above.

When Jesus was in the grave, even those who walked with him for the last 3 years went into hiding. I’d like to say that if I was there, I wouldn’t have gone into hiding…but as I imagine what must have been going through the minds of the disciples, I’m not too sure what I would have done ((honest people say hoooHa). They would have been asking, how could He die, He was the messiah, He preached great messages of faith & hope, we even used His power to cast out demons, He even raised the dead…How could he allow mere men to treat Him like a common criminal? Are there no armies that could defend Him in this kingdom He always talked about? At this point in time, the events would have been really difficult to understand…

Ground breaking pioneers are often misunderstood in their generation. Leaders who are truly creating new realities are often misunderstood by those they lead. I believe that Jesus was misunderstood the most at the height of fulfilling His destiny. I am so relieved that He didn’t take instruction from those who didn’t understand what He was about.

Great leaders are those who have embraced being misunderstood. Great leaders are those who refuse to be instructed by the reaction, comments and actions of those who misunderstand them. Great leaders are those who have developed confidence that their vision, calling or destiny will vindicate them.

Stay focused, don’t be mad at those who misunderstand you, don’t make it your mission to make everyone understand you. Every God given vision or destiny will vindicate you when it is fully manifested. Focus your energy on fulfilling your purpose…on the 3rd day of your “Easter” weekend, when the fullness of your purpose has been manifested, your vision will speak, loudly & clearly! Jesus’ life was explained fully in His death & resurrection.

The purpose of God in you is more important and more valuable than being understood.

One reason I love Church
UncategorizedLeave a comment

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. (Proverbs 4:23 NLT)

If we will produce maximum results from our lives, we have to be those who understand that we are designed to influence our world much more than our world influences us. We are not denying that our world will have an influence on us, but the challenge is to be more determined to ensure that the influence that you have on your world is greater than the influence that your world has on you!

As a christian who now has Christ on the inside of you…you literally have THE creative force of life on the inside of you. John 1:3 NLT says God created everything through HIM (the Word) and nothing was created except through him. So if you have the Word on the inside of you, you have the very creative force of life inside of you…and the challenge of living a fruitful life is that of ensuring that the created things on the outside do not enter in to crowd or drown the creative force of life in you! That was the problem with the thorny ground person described by Jesus in Mark 4.

One of the reasons I love Church (I can at least speak for my Church) is that it is a place where there is a high concentration of the power that reinforces and helps us build up our confidence (faith) in the Word, the creative force of life, Jesus…so much so that external influences don’t stand a chance in altering my God given destiny as described by the Word, the creative force of life! Nothing on the outside should be allowed to alter your destiny as described by Jesus!

A good church will help you deal with the challenge of living by helping you ensure that the reality of Word (Jesus) on inside is greater than the reality of the things we see in our World.

Get connected to a good church!

Grace be with you.

The bread of my life
UncategorizedLeave a comment

Deuteronomy 32:46…“Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. 47 They are not just idle words for you—they are your life.By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”

I recently realized after reading the above scripture that I sometimes treat God’s Word like an alternative to something else. We live in a generation where there appears to be alternatives to the Word of God. If the prayer for healing for that headache doesn’t work, there’s always paracetamol. If the prayer for provision doesn’t work like we expected it to work, at least we have a job which will definitely pay out at the end of the month. And so because we have these “alternatives” we can often approach God out of religion, which means that there is no real dependency on the God we are praying to.

The truth is that the Word of God is your life! The Word of God is my life! Whilst there are “alternatives”, God’s Word ALONE will produce the results that God has planned for you. John 10:10 tells us that Jesus came to give us life in abundance until it overflows. He came to give a life that is superabundant in quantity & superior in quality. But notice that it is Jesus…who is the Word of God…that came to give us that life.

Here is what I am saying today, the answers to life’s dilemmas are in the Words we heard at church over the weekend. They are in the pages of your bible, they are right there on that bible app! The Word is near you. Those Words are not idle, worthless, or vain. They are our life! They are our source of sustenance. That’s why the bible describes Jesus…The Word of God…as the bread of life. That’s why in the Lord’s prayer Jesus recommends that we place a demand for our “Daily Bread”. The moment we start to undermine the importance of the Daily Bread, we sign up for weakness, malnutrition and eventually death!

Everything we need for our nourishment is found in Jesus, the Bread of Life. Forgiveness, peace, love, provision, hope, faith, wisdom…EVERYTHING! I think the most beautiful thing about this bread of life is that He is eternal, He never runs out. All power has been given to Him. All knees eventually bow at the mention of His name. He is available to us FREELY. Whatever you need for life, don’t be shy, don’t hold back, FEAST ON THE BREAD OF LIFE. Just go for it! Let’s develop a habit of choosing to approach every single aspect of our lives on the basis of what the Word says. That’s how we feast on the Bread of Life. The person who does this has this promise from Jesus Himself: John 6:35… “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will NEVER go hungry, and he who believes in me will NEVER be thirsty”.

I’ve made a decision to COMPLETELY depend on the bread of life for my sustenance.
