That was then, this is now
UncategorizedLeave a comment

Ephesians 2:
12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.

13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
There was a time when we were without hope, there was a time when if you fell sick, you had no real hope for healing…BUT THAT WAS THEN! There was a time when if you came from the wrong side of town, you had no hope that you would go to university or live in that neighbourhood! But that was then! There was a time when if you came from a home wrecked by divorce, you had no hope of having marriages that work…but that was then! BUT NOW YOU have been brought near, so you have hope…you have a God!

Even when it looks like all the doors have been locked, even if you feel you are the end of the road, you have hope, you have God! Don’t you dare live like you have no hope! Because YOU HAVE HOPE! And you have God!

You might not have the answer yet…but you have hope and you have a God! You might not know where the help will come from…but you have hope…and it’s not just wishful thinking…it is hope that comes through the resurrection of Jesus!!
You have hope! You have God! This is the truth NOW.

Getting WHATEVER you desire
UncategorizedLeave a comment

John 15:7 – If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. (John 15:7 NKJV)
Jesus is not fearful about leaving you with a heavenly blank cheque! The preacher is scared to tell you that you can have whatsoever you desire. He says if my words remain permanently in you…then you will ask what you desire…

Most of us want what our desires satisfied, without the abiding word in our hearts! But God says…first I want my words to abide in you…why? This is because God is more interested in who you are becoming than He is in what you are receiving!

God wants your rent paid…he doesn’t mind you owning house or a business…you can have as many aeroplanes as you want…but God wants HIS words to ABIDE IN us FIRST because He is more interested in who we are becoming than He is in what we are receiving!

Romans 8:29 says that God predestined us to be conformed into the image of His Son, Jesus!

If you’re wondering…what does God want for my life?…HE WANTs YOU AND I TO BE JUST LIKE JESUS IN EVERY WAY! That’s our primary calling.

My primary calling is not pastoring, or being a husband or a father, my primary calling is to be just like Jesus. That’s why when you put your faith in Jesus…God makes us just like Jesus in our spirit. Galatians 4 says that God sent the spirit of His son into our hearts…So our spirit is already like Jesus…that is what Guarantees our eternal security…however as for our character, or Our souls…he wants that to be just like Jesus.

So I could be believing God to be an awesome pastor…to be an awesome husband, son or father…all of those things could be on my prayer list, but on God’s list, it’s who i’m becoming that is more important for God! You riding good…you paying your mortgage, or even being excellent at what you do is all secondary…God is more interested in you becoming like Jesus.

Real success is not about what you can achieve…the real success is who you are becoming on the way to what you achieve!

Imagine that 2 people, both millionaires lost all their money. One became a millionaire by winning the lottery, the other became a millionaire by building a business from scratch. Which one do you think is most likely to become a millionaire again? The business man…why? because of who he became on the way to building the business the first time.

The real equity in life is not in the things you accumulate…the real equity in life is in who you become as you accumulate things!

Most christians have a lottery mindset. A mindset that says if i come to church enough times. I might win the lottery. I might win the man of my dreams! If I confess the word this many times…then boom, the day will come when my “blessing” will come!

Success does not usually come in big chunks, it comes in smaller pieces. This is because the way in which you deal with the pieces shape the real you! Your blessing is already here, because God is always shaping you with His Word. A character shaped by God’s Word is an empowerment to succeed…it is a blessing. Yield to that character shaping Word today.
Here is one of my favourite prayers – Lord, I yield to all of your promises today. Whatever you want for me is alright with me.

A God view of your year
UncategorizedLeave a comment

As the year draws to an end, just like most of you, I’ve been reviewing the events of the year. I thought I’d share what I have learnt about how to view the positive and negative events in life

So much of what how we feel when we look at our life journey is not really about the particular events that seem to have defined our year. It’s more about the perspective you have. We feel the way we feel because of how we see things. In Genesis 50, we find the story of Joseph who has been through so much good and bad

Here’s a run down:

Bad – those who should love should love and protect him wanted to kill him. Good– God delivered him from death at the hands of His brothers

Good– He gets promoted in his slave-masters house Bad– He gets accused of rape and thrown into jail

Good– he gets favour with the jailers and inmates. Bad– the people he helped left and forgot him

…that’s A LOT to go through in one lifetime!

PS: Whenever you look back at your life, don’t forget the times that God has delivered you.

But he eventually finds himself in the palace here in Genesis 50…not prophesying about his future, but testifying about his past.

Genesis 50:20 – As for you, you thought evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring about that many people should be kept alive, as they are this day.”

It’s one thing for people to hurt you unintentionally, but it’s another thing for them to hurt you on purpose!

The testimony of Joseph’s life (and by faith I declare that the testimony of your life) is such that the God of the bible is such a pro at taking even that which was meant for evil, and turning it around for good!!

If you think your year has been a hot mess, bring the mess to the feet of Jesus in prayer! It won’t stay a hot mess! He knows how to bring out beauty from ashes!

We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for
good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose. (Romans 8:28 AMP)

So look at this, everything works together for good to those that Love God and are called according to GOD’S Purpose!

The only way to correctly perceive the events in your life is through the purpose of God. When something good or horrible happens in your life, God works it in such a way that it will be according to His purpose.

Outside of the purpose of God you will inevitably misinterpret the good or bad events of this past year.

This year, if you experienced good, know that it was ultimately for the purpose of God.

If you experienced not so good things, know and trust also that God is so good at using it for good.

“For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11‬ ‭AMP‬‬

As you look into the new year, expect ONLY good! Even when not so good things happen, we still expect good! Everything that happens to you is being used by God for His purpose. And his purpose is good, acceptable and pleasing.
Praying for you.

My first experience of Preaching – Oh Dear!
UncategorizedLeave a comment

Below is a short clip from the first message I ever preached at El-Shaddai Bradford! I received this DVD today. It was the 3rd time I had ever preached in my whole life! The first time to preach before a couple of hundred people!  The first 2 times I preached, we had just a handful of people.

I received great feedback from those who were listening to me preach. They said great things…they are really nice people. This is not an account of what they saw, or heard. This is an account of what I felt.

2 or 3 weeks or so to the date, Pastor Mark was driving out of the car park and I was getting into my car. He called me over, and after a brief exchange of banter…He told me I would be preaching on the 29th of September. I could barely sleep or even eat well for weeks (you know it’s serious when my food is interrupted!)

On that Wednesday, most things were a blur, all I can remember was the absolute terror I felt as the sacredness of what I believe I was called to do hit me! I thought, dude (I call myself that sometimes), what on earth are you doing?!?

I had been at El-Shaddai Bradford for about 6 years at this point, I had served with these guys, led some, been led by some. We partied together, rehearsed together, joked together and now I was going to preach to them! Sometimes it’s easier to preach to those you don’t know. The stakes are not as high!

I wish I could tell you that I felt I was going to bring the house down! Whist I was convinced that a Word in season from God, I was full of terror! The only other time I felt more terror than this day, was the day I knelt down in a crowded restaurant, heart in my stomach and ring in my hand about to propose to my lovely girlfriend (now wife ;)).

I tried watching it the message today, but I couldn’t watch the whole thing! I can feel today everything I felt that day!

CLICK HERE TO WATCH A CLIP FROM THAT MESSAGE

As I spoke about How God helps the courageous, my heart was in my stomach all the way through! I felt sick all the way through. My mouth and lips were dry, I could barely hear my own voice & I think I was pretty convinced I was going to say something stupid soon!

To be honest, 5 years on, even after preaching at least 3 times a week, I still feel the terror I felt that day. My heart sinks straight into my stomach whenever I remember how sacred it is to preach to people bought by the blood of Jesus.

Today, the only difference is that I now have evidence without doubt that God has truly helps me EVERY SINGLE TIME! That’s not fancy faith talk, that’s the WHOLE truth!

I hope to continue preaching for a long time. But if I don’t (I WILL…chill…there’s nothing between the lines to read!! :))…I am evidence that God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips those who answer His call.

I have by no means reached where I want to reach, but I am definitely not where I used to be.

I wasn’t just preaching about help for the courageous, I was preaching to myself!  Courage is stepping out even when your heart is in your stomach, your lips and mouth are dry. Courage is doing “it” even when you feel you’re about to make a fool of yourself in front of those you love and respect.

Don’t let these things stop you.

Do it if God asked you to.

Do it when you feel sick.

Do it at the risk of failing.

Do it when the when all is crumbling  around you

Do it when all is well.

When I think about the next 5 years my heart sometimes sinks into my stomach…but then I remember the last 5 years and I am filled with so much excitement and hope!

Do what God called you to do and in 5 YEARS TIME,

It was one thing to preach at El-Shaddai Sheffield the Sunday before, but even though they are family, I didn’t have a personal relationship with them as I did with the folks in Bradford.

Tear the roof of kind of friends!
UncategorizedLeave a comment

Faith is the substance of our lives. The ability to believe God in every season is key to experiencing the Life that God has reserved for us.

Sometimes however, we find ourselves in situations where for whatever reason we can’t quite believe what we ought to believe.

In these seasons of your life I pray that God sends you faithful friends whose faith provoke your breakthrough.

Choose to be that kind of friend and God will ensure you never lack friends who are prepared to lift the roof off for you!

I believe but nothing is happening!
UncategorizedLeave a comment

One of the common frustrations that those who believe in the promises found in the scriptures is the distance that sometimes exist between believing the promise of God & experiencing the manifestation of the promise.

The integrity of a decision to start off a journey in faith is often questioned as time goes on. Particularly when expectations have not been met in the expected time frame.

But faith alone is not enough to experience the promise. Check out this scripture below: IMG_6789-0
When we have faith without patience, we are more likely to to abort the process…whilst the miracle is cooking!

It’s great that you believe God can heal, provide or intervene in your nation. But now it’s time for patience. After doing all you know to do, it’s time to stand.

Patience is standing firm on what you believe even with contradicting evidence.

Patience is the process by which the quality of your faith is tested.

The Contradicting circumstances you experience after declaring what you believe does not come to prove to you that God lied. The enemy knows that God does not lie. The contradictions to what we believe come to ask us: “what do you really believe?”

They come to ask, “do you really believe God heals, cares, provides, intervenes on your behalf?”

The path from Faith in God to experiencing the promise, is littered with questions like “can I survive this” “can you handle that challenge”” will I ever come out of this mess” “will I ever love again”” will I ever be free from this debt/addiction/depression/illness””will this bill ever be paid”

But real question they are all asking of those who begin a journey of faith is …”WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE”.

Faith is not just positive thinking. Faith is a quality decision we make concerning God, after having received a revelation of Him. Without faith it is impossible to please God or obtain what He has graciously reserved for us in Christ.

Patience is not just waiting around hoping that your positive thought will call up your lottery number today. Patience is the ability to consistently reaffirm your faith in God, even in the face of contradictions.

I’m praying for you who believes but haven’t seen the manifestation. I’m praying that you will have the courage to add patience to your faith. I pray that today you will receive strength to stand. I pray that this will be the season when you breakthrough.

God is good. He is sovereign. He is all knowing. God did not lie to you.

Faith + Patience = His promise.

faith in the blood of Jesus

This is one of those messages that our “modern” church might not talk much about, but the blood of Jesus is right at the heart of God’s plan for mankind. Take some time to check this out. I pray it blesses you. Do share 🙂

It’s an inside job!

Ephesians 3:13 Therefore I ask that you do not lose heart at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.

Here in Ephesians 3 we join a conversation that Paul was having with the Ephesians. They were all facing a very difficult time. Paul was really loved by the church. He pastored them, taught them, fathered them and they loved him deeply. But things were not going as they expected it to go. He was being persecuted heavily.

A big challenge we all face in the JOURNEY OF life is the challenge of the unexpected. We can deal with the good things and even the bad things that we expect. But most people struggle with the unexpected. No one expected their Pastor, Father to be hated, totured and imprisoned like Paul was. That was an unexpected development that caused the ephesians to be disheartened, despondent, discouraged. And in view of this Paul says DONT LOSE HEART!

Now check out why he admonished them to not lose heart:

14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,[c] 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love

He says don’t lose heart because I have prayed for you! Did he pray for the persecutions he was facing to stop? No. Even though this was the reason the Ephesians were disheartened! Instead he prayed that they will be strengthened with might through the Holy Spirit in the Inner man!

Most of the time when we lose heart, it is usually because there is something that is discouraging on the outside and when you get discouraged or disheartened, you lose the strength to go forward.

The temptation for us is to begin to look for something that is encouraging on the outside too. As the thing that sapped your strength is on the outside, we tend to look for things on the outside to change in order for us to be strengthened again. However God has set things up in such a way that the strength you need to deal with what you face comes THROUGH HIS SPIRIT…IN YOUR INNER MAN!

Whilst you were waiting to get a spouse on the outside to overcome the sense of loneliness in your heart, God was waiting for you to look at the inner man! Your strength will not come from the outside, it will come from the inside! LOOK INSIDE! LOOK AT THE HOLY SPIRIT

Listen, it really doesn’t matter what is going on on the outside. Paul, in Philippians 4:13(AMP) said “I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who [a]infuses inner strength into me; I am [b]self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency]”

It’s an inside job!

This simple truth has set me free from having a victim mindset and birthed a deep desire to know this person who literally holds ALL of my life in Him…The Holy Spirit. Investigate this person. Know Him. Lean on Him. ALL of your life is in HIM.

How to disagree and still communicate love
UncategorizedLeave a comment

People don’t have to agree with you to genuinely love you. If agreement is your prerequisite for love, you will never find true love.

In fact I believe that some (not all) of the people who vehemently disagree with you, are those who love you the most.

One of the big problems we have as human beings is that we are control freaks! This is so evident when there is a disagreement. The silent treatment, the violence, the harsh words etc are often our attempt to coherce the other party to agree with us! The more they resist, the more intense the cohersion.

How to disagree and still communicate love
1- WHEN/IF ASKED be clear about your position. It is not real love if your friends, those who often provide a sounding board, are not clear.

Proverbs 15:22 Where there is no counsel, purposes are frustrated, but with many counselors they are accomplished.

Good friends are God sent because good friends provide the counsel that helps our lives work. When asked, good friends have s responsibility to give clear counsel.

2. Don’t try to control, try to give the advantage!! We all face this challenge with the ones we love. When we are convinced about our position, especially when our loved ones are not standing in the same position, we are so desperate that we often resort to all types of schemes to get them to agree with us.

This is one of the areas that having faith in an all knowing God who has the hearts of kings in His hands makes such a difference. Because I have Jesus, I can afford to deliberately give up the attempt to coherce loved ones into going on the “right” path according to me.
Instead of trying controlling the outcome, pray hard for them and look for a way to give them the advantage. Don’t take a stance that says “you will soon fall flat on your face and I’ll be there to say I told you so!”. Take a stance that says, “you know I don’t think this is the way forward, but you make must also know that as your friend, you never need to doubt that I’m here for you!”. Take ever opportunity to communicate the latter through words and deeds.

Communicate your disagreement appropriately. But never communicate your disagreement stronger than you communicate your love. Speak the Truth…IN LOVE
