By simply living in this fallen world, our souls inevitably get damaged. The mistake of a well meaning but ill informed parent. The harsh and terrible break up you went through. That soul destroying custody battle for your beloved children following that divorce from your spouse of many years. The bankruptcy. The abuse. The rejection. The disappointment. The unexpected loss of a loved one. We have all experienced one or more of these things. Truth is these experiences damage our soul.
With our soul we feel and choose. Our soul is the seat of our emotions. Our emotions influence our decisions. A damaged soul is a skewed soul. One definition of the word skewed is something that has been made biased or distorted in a way that is regarded as inaccurate, unfair, or misleading.
A skewed soul will produce skewed emotions. Skewed emotions lead to skewed decisions. Skewed decisions leave you in dodgy places in life!!
Check out this scripture:
He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. (Psalms 23:3 NKJV)
Jesus is that good shepherd who can restore your soul. He can fix every distortion of your soul. He is THE restorer of our souls. It doesn’t matter how bad the abuse was, or how deeply hurt you were by that disappointment you faced. He can restore your soul.
I faced some big disappointments years ago and recently realised that I was terribly afraid of bad news. I realised that I made so many decisions, particularly in my early twenties under the influence of this distortion of my soul. He is restoring my soul. Since I found out that He can restore my soul, I have become less limited by the life experiences that left me messed up! Im not where I used to be. He has restored my soul. He is restoring my soul.
He can refresh your soul, and then guide you along the right paths. If you let Him, He will fix your soul and save you from every skewed decision. We don’t have to walk down the wrong paths that our skewed souls often lead us to take. He restores our soul and leads us along the right paths…not for our sake, but for His sake.
When God does anything for His name sake, it means that it is guaranteed as it is not dependent on imperfect you and me, but on a perfect God!
I’ll write about How He restores our soul in another blog. You’ve done well to read up until this point, so I won’t take up any more of your time…(I’m nice like that :))
Say this after me: SHEPHERD OF MY SOUL, I YEILD MY SOUL YOU. GO AHEAD, RESTORE MY SOUL. THANK YOU LORD THAT YOU RESTORE MY SOUL AND GUIDE ME ALONG THE RIGHT PATHS FOR YOUR NAME SAKE
