We live in a world that places so many demands on us. Different situations and different circumstances demand different things from us. Your work colleagues require something different to what your family requires of you. Church folk require you to be a certain way in other for them to be able to relate to you. Different geographical locations place varying demand on you and I.
It must be accepted that protocol is to be respected in whatever setting you find yourself, however it becomes a huge problem when we begin to work more on looking right for the setting you find yourself in, as opposed to being right for that setting. This is where we begin to work more on our reputation than we do on our character. The bible describes this state of being as hypocritical.
“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs—beautiful on the outside but filled on the inside with dead people’s bones and all sorts of impurity. (Matthew 23:27 NLT)
Notice that it will always end in a place of sorrow when we are more concerned about our reputation as opposed to our character (which is who we are when no one is looking)
In fact stories from the bible show us that God always picked those who did not have the best reputation because they had a character that was right. Good character eventually gives birth to a good reputation. God is more interested in your character than He is in your reputation. When Jesus died for us, He didn’t die so we could look good(reputation) he died so we could be good (character).
One thing I have discovered in my relationship with God is that He is interested in me. I don’t need to be a certain way with Him. I never need to put up a certain type of face for God. I don’t need to try and look right for Him…He accepts me as I am. That’s the same for you today. Religion wants you to clean up before you go to God…God wants you to come to him if you’re interested in cleaning up!
Real mountain moving faith is driven by a character that is surrendered to the grace of God. Faith driven by the need to preserve your reputation will never produce the results that God wants us to produce. Working on our character by depending on the grace of God leads us to the place where we never have to worry about looking right…because we will be right.
We can change the World as we let our kind and gracious God mould our character.FOCUS ON THE RIGHT THING
